Gemini Secures MiCA License in Malta, Expands EU Crypto Services
Gemini, the cryptocurrency exchange founded by the Winklevoss twins, has obtained a Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) license from the Malta Financial Services Authority. This regulatory milestone allows Gemini to expand its trading products and services across more than 30 European jurisdictions under the EU's new harmonized framework.
The MiCA regulation, implemented this year, establishes the first pan-European rulebook for crypto assets, providing legal clarity for industry participants. Gemini's compliance-focused strategy continues with this approval, following its recent MiFID II license for derivatives and the launch of tokenized stocks in Europe.
As part of its growth plans, Gemini is preparing to introduce additional offerings including derivatives for both retail and institutional clients. The exchange joins a growing list of crypto firms exploring public listings, having recently engaged Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, and Morgan Stanley for advisory services.
